Barry Cheskin serves as Chairman of AirXpanders and is a seasoned medical device executive who began his career in the medical device industry as a senior engineer at C.R. Bard. Currently, he is the President and CEO of PowerVision, Inc. Prior to that, he was President and CEO of NanoGram Devices Corp., a nanotechnology-based medical device company. Previously, he was the President and CEO of RITA Medical Systems, Inc., a minimally invasive cancer device company. He was also a Division President at another medical device company, Datascope Corp., where he launched the VasoSeal vascular puncture sealing product. Barry has served as a Senior Associate in the management consulting firm of Booz, Allen & Hamilton.
Barry holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Ms. Brigitte Smith (B Chem Eng, MBA, MALD) is Co-Founder and Managing Director, GBS Venture Partners Ltd and serves on the board at AirXpanders.
Brigitte Smith has fifteen years experience in venture capital, business strategy and start-up company operations. Brigitte has been investing and managing investments for GBS’s $450m of life science specialised venture capital funds for the last 12 years. GBS is Australia’s leading life science venture capital group. The GBS team has completed more than 40 medical device and life science investments over the last 12 years. Brigitte is on the board of GBS portfolio companies AirXpanders, Applied Physiology Pty Ltd, Dynamic Hearing Pty Ltd, Kalobios Inc, Neuromonics Pty Ltd, Proacta Inc and Vivive Inc. Brigitte was the founding investor and founding chair of Pharmaxis Pty Ltd.
Prior to founding GBS Brigitte worked in the US and Australia in operating roles with early stage technology based companies, and at Bain & Company as a strategic management consultant. Ms. Smith has a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (Honours) from the University of Melbourne, a Master of Business Administration (Honours) from the Harvard Business School and a Master of International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, both in Boston, USA. Ms. Smith is also an adjunct lecturer in Entrepreneurial Finance at the Melbourne Business School.

Brian Clevinger serves on the board of AirXpanders. He is a founder and managing director of Prolog. Brian has 20 years of experience in all phases of commercial technology development. He currently focuses on drug delivery, aesthetic materials and devices, and plant biotechnology. Previously, following an academic career in a tenured position at Washington University in St. Louis, he learned the art of investing at an affiliate of Alafi Capital and then served as founding CEO of a vaccine delivery company. Brian holds a doctorate in immunology from Indiana University and has completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University.

Scott Dodson is President, CEO and a member of the board for AirXpanders. Scott has over 22 years of executive management and leadership experience in the medical device industry with Boston Scientific, Orthofix Orthopedics and BarrX Medical. Most recently, Scott was the President and CEO of Avantis Medical Systems where he led the company through their Series C financing and two successful bridge financings en route to securing Medicare reimbursement, the completion and publication of the largest tandem designed randomized trial in medical device history and the development of a next generation imaging system for global full market release. Mr. Dodson has a Bachelor of Science in Management from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and has completed the Executive Management Program of both Columbia University and Babson College.

Teddy Shalon is a Director on the Board of AirXpanders. He has over 28 years of experience as an accomplished entrepreneur, executive, and investor focusing on life science-oriented ventures. At the age of 22, Mr. Shalon started his first company, which developed surgical devices. He then moved on to medical informatics and founded Ivy Technologies, serving as its President and CTO. Following the acquisition of Ivy by Nestlé, he co-founded a life science incubator, Metaphase, where he oversaw all technical and clinical developments. He later became a cofounding Chairman of Synteni, a developer of microarrays for measuring gene expression.
More recently, Teddy founded Neosil, a dermatology-focused specialty pharmaceutical company with several products in pre-clinical development; AirXpanders, a reconstructive surgery device company; Osteogenix, an orthobiologic company; and iWhisper, an obesity control device company.
Teddy holds an MS in Computer Science, a BA in Physics, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis.
The company was founded by Teddy Shalon, Barry Cheskin and Daniel Jacobs, M.D., a practicing plastic surgeon.
